Beneath the Pier was inspired by that irresistible childhood curiosity to peer beneath a jetty and imagine the hidden world below. Sunlight filters through the water, tiny creatures drift in the current, and fish move silently through a place that feels mysterious and full of possibility.
This original artwork combines my hand-drawn fish illustration with the historic cyanotype process. I first drew the fish before transforming it into a transparency and exposing it on high-quality watercolor paper using sunlight. Salt crystals and glass buttons were incorporated during the cyanotype process, creating textures and patterns that echo bubbles, plankton, and shimmering underwater light.
The result is a one-of-a-kind celebration of curiosity, marine life, and the quiet magic that exists just beneath the ocean's surface.
