The Cape Cod kettle pond I live beside was frozen solid, and I walked out a short distance. Then I saw the hole — and inside it, thousands of bubbles suspended in the ice, catching the flat winter light in shades of silver and deep blue-grey. I was enchanted.
This pond exists because of ice. It was created by a massive chunk of ice left by the Laurentide Ice Sheet at the end of the last ice age — by the same ancient force whose legacy I spend my working life helping people understand. Ice Bubbles is a photograph taken a few steps from my door—and a reminder of deep time and elemental forces.
The set includes three wallpapers — a lock screen and light and dark home screen options — in four sizes to cover most modern smartphones:
