About Ocean Devotion

I've been drawn to the ocean for as long as I can remember.

As a kid, I spent hours exploring tide pools, watching sea creatures navigate their tiny worlds, mesmerized by the way sunlight filtered through shallow water. Playing in the waves. Just wandering along the shore. That sense of wonder has never left me. It’s one reason I became a scientific illustrator and children's book author/illustrator focused on the natural world—I wanted to help others see what I saw, to feel that same sense of awe. I’m still the same: when I’m not making art, you’ll find me walking the beach, out in my kayak, playing in the waves, or snorkeling with my underwater camera because there’s nowhere I feel more at home than on or in the water. And filming Ocean Devotion sunrise videos, of course!

But somewhere along the way, I realized the sea doesn't just need to be enjoyed—it needs to be understood and cared for, now more than ever. The state of the ocean affects global climate, the creatures who call it home, and communities and economies worldwide. We are all creatures of the sea in one way or another, even if we live far from it.

Ocean Devotion is where my need to create and publishing/science communication background meet my need to make a greater impact. The paintings, photography, designs—they're all my way of saying: look at this, feel this, care about this.

This isn't a full-time venture yet, but I'm working toward it. For now, it's a labor of love and a commitment to give back to the oceans that have given me so much joy and incredible, long ocean-going adventures.
